Transcript | Saddlebrook, New Jersey, Opening Soon MARRIOTT MOTOR HOTELS James E. Durbin The Marriott Motor Hotels—another major operating division in Hot Shoppes' diversified corporate structure—were founded in Washington, D.C. in 1956 with the opening of the Marriott Twin Bridges Motor Hotel on the Virginia side of the Potomac River. Since then the company's Motor Hotel Division has grown steadily. It has been a sound growth, keyed to the orderly development of prime metropolitan locations and the expansion of existing facilities to handle the increasing volume of tourist, business and convention clientele. The Marriott Motor Hotels were the first motor hotel chain to recognize the importance of convention business by establishing a National Convention Sales Organization in 1959.
