Cher* Will b« be brown bag lunch a] alao OUT Churcb'8 growth- You arm I WHY WE ARt A FELLOWSHIP By Rev. James Sandmire When Reverend Troy Perry founded Metropolitan Community Church in 1968; he called gay men and ' lesbians into a new relationship with their Creator. In 1969, newly-founded Metropolitan Community Churches came together to form a new denomination — the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan* Community Churches or as we call it, "The Fellowship." The exciting message ofthe all-embracing love of God ' has brought thousands of gay-and non-gay persons into our family. Metropolitan Community Churches are found in. most American cities, suburbs and many rural areas; in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Nigeria, South Africa, Mexico and other countries. Within our unique Fellowship a special blend of doctrine and government has-grown up. The congregational tradition has always been strong ia tne .Fellowship. Sometimes that congregational government has been modified in the interests of common purposes arid better governing of the whole Fellow* . •hip. Why has that happened? Of what value is the Fellowship to local Metropolitan Community Churches and members? Rev. Sandmire it tha founder and Pastor of Golden Gate" MCC. He pastored MCC churches in San Francisco, Los Angeles, AU Saints, East Bay and San Martini County, California. He served 2 full terms as an Elder and Treasurer of the UFMCC He has served as chair of the Board of Regents of Samaritan Educational Ministries and in numerous other important Fellowship positions.
