OPFN DAILY X 9,oo ; v^x.;. _- —— E O Llovd Prop ■•; ■ ■ The only true words to describe "Goodbye Norma Jean" is low budget. It is sleazy, shabby, and stupid. Despite all these adjectives, it has some magnetic pull and does leave the audience with a small amount of satisfaction. Larry Buchanan, who also wrote as well as directed, calls it the "real story" of the birth of Marilyn Monroe. The plot of the film follows Norma Jean Baker from 1941 to the late 50's when Marilyn was getting her first big breaks in film. Misty Rowe of "Hee Haw" fame takes on the title role as Norma Jean. She bears a small resemblance to Norma Jean, but attains the appearance of Marilyn when the transformation is complete. As to sounding like Marilyn she has it down pat. The dialogue is played straight forward and plows earnestly ahead. It's really sad - what a heaven satire it could have been! From Misty Rowe's topless scenes to her rape scene by a cop and all the way to her seduction by the lesbian casting director, it appears that "Norma Jean" was headed to be a top rated porno flick, but for some unknown reason, it was changed at the last minute.
