Transcript CONNECTIONS 11 SIE»U*'PW EKMFlLillP Story by Wayde Frey Photos by Carr Strong COMING SOON THE ALL NEW NEW APARTMENT 10TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY IN JUNE FREE BEER MONDAY NIGHT 2828 RIO GRANDE/AUSTIN 4780224 ENTRANCE IN REAR Hot Lips owners Tom Lippano. (left) and Ray Roberts The store with the largest selection of gay greeting cards in Texas is right here in Austin — Hot Lips, at 2815-A Fruth (28th and Guadalupe). Owners Ray Roberts and Tom Lippano report that Austin loved Divine when the Pink Flamingos star was in Austin on March 5, 1981. Divine's appearance to sign autographs at Hot Lips was Hot Lips' way of thanking Austin for their enthusiastic response to the gift shop. Divine loved Austin, too. He plans to return in May to spend four days here, Tom told CONNECTIONS. Divine said he wants to do some shopping at Hot Lips, since he was too busy signing autographs last time! Tom and Ray also plan to show Divine the Hill Country, including Hippie Hollow, when he returns. Divine told Tom and Ray that the Austin response to his appearance was the warmest, most moving, that he has ever received. Bunch and Keith also hosted a packed, standing-room only appearance by Divine at the Austin Country the night of March 5, helping to celebrate the Country's eighth anniversary. Tom Lippano reports that Hot Lips has incorporated as Trans-Lips Inc. and will be opening several franchises in Texas this year, including one soon in Corpus Christi. Hot Lips' Austin store is booming, and gay customers have recently begun to shop at Hot Lips in a big way. The two Austin police officers whose beat includes Hot Lips enjoy shopping at the store, too, Tom says. Tom Lippano
