Transcript #17 vsi wmzIsll&r NEWSLETTER VACATION This issue of the Austin Lambda newsletter is an abbreviation of the usual 12- page monthly edition for two reasons: first, vacation-induced exhaustion; second, a critical lack of money. Delayed until next month are: an article on 'New Life for Cuban Lesbians,' a letter from Robin Tyler on her impressions of our production of her performance here, a feature from Boston's 'Gay Community News' on gay men in prison (some for life) for having sex with 'minors' and some regular features like 'Questions you always wanted to ask...' The newsletter has a circulation of 1,000 distributed to sponsors and to the public through clubs, bars, bookstores, etc. It can only be published with your help. SPONSOR DRIVE (And A Call For Help) Austin Lambda is a Lesbian and Gay Men's educational project which offers a newsletter, workshops, support groups, a speakers' bureau for the community, etc. It exists totally on the financial support of individuals in the community. About 150 persons currently help support Lambda, through monthly 'pledges' of $3, $10 or more if more can be afforded. We get by through periodic fund-raising events, but we really need nearly twice the number of sponsors we now have. Visit our attractive center at 603 West 12th Street and consider becoming a sponsor. If you are already a sponsor, you can help the drive by encouraging one other woman or man to become a sponsor. Tell them what we do; tell them we need them. New sponsors can send their first donation, along with name and address, and they will receive ' the next issue of the newsletter by mail. Any extra donations which can be offered at this time to carry us through a vacation slump will be appreciated. LESBIAN MOTHERS There is a monthly open pot-luck supper for Lesbians, Lesbian co-parents, and their children the first Sunday of each month. Call 479- 0654 for information. COMMUNITY SUPPERS For fun - and for funds - Austin Lambda will hold a community supper at 603 W 12th once a month. This month Joe Adams will serve up a super-Chile (for veggies too) with salad and corn bread - all for $2.50 and the pleasure of helping Lambda. The supper will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday January 20th. A beverage will be included with the supper. Please come. RUNNERS AND TO-BE-RUNNERS Austin Lambda is sponsoring a Lesbian/Gay fun-run around town lake every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. All interested runners should meet at the Gazebo at Auditorium Shores (near the Municipal Auditorium). Physical fitness is not required; only a desire to run. Bring friends. AWARENESS SESSIONS Austin Lambda holds regular weekly 'awareness' or rap sessions respectively for Lesbians and for Gay Men. The Lesbian meeting is held every Thursday at 8 p.m.; the Gay meeting is held every Monday night at 8 p.m. The gatherings are open to new women and men each week. NEW LESBIAN/GAY THERAPY GROUP Austin Lambda is sponsoring a new therapy group for both Lesbians and Gay Men. The difference between this group and other such groups offered in the community will be (a) that it is open to both Lesbians and Gay Men and (b) that the group will remain open - anyone may enter or leave the group any week. It is hoped that the group will be especially helpful for women and men who are (a) in temporary crises (b) wanting the benefit of a mixed group or (c) want an experience with being in a therapy group without making a lone term commitment to one. Of course the group will welcome involvement for as long as an individual wishes to keep attending. The professional fee for persons attending any session is $5 per sessior The therapists leading the group will be Lee Nicoloff and Michael Fernandes, Lesbian and Gay therapist respectively. The group will meet each Wednesday night from 8 until 10 p.m. beginning Wednesday, January 2Tst. Please come if you are interested in being in this therapy group. Tell friends. And please be on time.
