NEWSLETTER VACATION
This issue of the Austin Lambda newsletter
is an abbreviation of the usual 12-
page monthly edition for.two reasons: fir~t,
vacation-induced exhaustion; second, a critical
lack of money. Delayed until next
month are: an article on 'New Life for Cuban
Lesbians,' a letter from Robin Tyler on her
impressions of our production of her performance
here, a feature from Boston's 'Gay
Community 1~ews 1 on gay men in prison (some
for life) for having sex with 'minors' and
some regular features like 'Questions you
always wanted to ask ... 1 The newsletter
has a circulation of l ,000 distributed to
sponsors and to the public through clubs,
bars, bookstores, etc. It can only be
published with your help.
SPONSOR DRIVE (And A Call For Help)
Austin Lambda is a Lesbian and Gay Men's
educational project which offers a newsletter,
workshops, support groups, a speakers' bureau
for the community, etc. It exists totally on
the financial support of individuals in the
community. About 150 persons currently help
support Lambda, through monthly 'pledges' of
$3, $10 or more if more can be afforded. We
COMMUNITY SUPPERS
For fun - and for funds - Austin Lambda will
hold a community supper at 603 W 12th once a
month. This month Joe Adams will serve up a
super-Chile (for veggies too) with salad and
corn bread - all for $2.50 and the pleasure of
helping Lambda. The supper will be at 7 p.m.
on Tuesday January 20th. A beverage will be
included with the supper. Please come.
RUNNERS AND TO- BE-RUNNERS
Austin Lambda is sponsoring a Lesbian/Gay
fun-run around town lake every Saturday morning
at 10 a.m. All intereste~ runners should meet
at the Gazebo at Auditorium Shores (near the
Municipal Auditorium). Physical fi~ness ~s not
required; only a desire to run. Bring friends.
AWARENESS SESSIONS
Austin Lambda holds regular weekly 'awareness'
or rap sessions respectively for Lesbians and for
Gay Men. The Lesbian meeting is held every Thursday
at 8 p.m.; the Gay meeting is held every Monday
night at 8 p.m. The gatherings are open to new
women and men each week.
NEW LESBIAN/GAY THERAPY GROUP

IN THE CLOSET ON THE JOB
A workshop for working people who have to
jeal with being in the closet in their professions
was first held at Lambda in November,
led by Sissy Loftin and Michael Fernandes.
The group decided to continue a monthly open
support group for all Lesbians and Gay Men
Nho want help in dealing with this issue. The
first monthly meeting of the continuing group
will be held on Tuesday, January 13th from
7:30-9 p.m. Everyone, from every sort of work
and profession, is welcome.
SPEAKERS' BUREAU WORK SESSION
In an attempt to address the problem of alcoholism
and alcohol abuse within the Lesbian and Gay
community, an organizational meeting of alcohol
and drug professionals will be held at Austin Lambda
on Wednesday January 14th at 7:30 p.m. No
specific goals are set for the meeting but it is
hoped that some way will be found locally to combat
the dependency that affects 3 out of 10
Lesbians and Gay Men (3 times higher incidence
than in the straight population). Everyone is
welcome.
LESBIAN THERAPY GROUP
Austin Lambda will sponsor a therapy group
specifically for Lesbians, led by Carolyn
Crumpton, a local psychologist. The group will
meet at Lambda. Fees will be fixed according to
individual needs but are expected to range from
