Transcript SCREENING & ENDORSEMENT MEETIN.GS . Karen Loper,VlOE CHAIR Political Action Our screening meeting on September 20th proved to be quite interesting. We had an opportunity to meet and question Jon Linday, Joe Pentony, Judge Jimmie Duncan, Jack Miles, Robert Baum, Anita Rodeheaver, Carl Huff, Mary Creasy, Hartsell Gray and Robert Hutchings for 10 minutes each. It is unfortunate that all but approximately 20 Caucus members missed this chance to learn something about the candidates to be considered for endorsement. Mickey Leland was also present at the screening meeting. He was given time to clarify his postion on affirmative action and answered questions concerning the September 10th Houston Post story that had troubled us. On September 27th an overflow crowd attended the endorsement meeting. Consideration was given to 18 different races but the required 2/3 majority was only reached on 3 candidates. The new endorsements are: Robert Baum, Civil District Court 263 Joe Pentony, County Judge Carl Huff, County Commission Pet. #4 The vote was very close in two other races. Bob Gammage in Congressional District 22 and Antia Rodeheaver for the County Clerk race* fell a few votes short of the number needed for endorsement. By a narrow margin the members present voted to keep the endosement of Bob Eckhardt. By a unanimouse decision voted to issue a censure of him for his vote against the ERA time extension. The complete list of all candidates that we have endorsed for the November elections are on the front page of this newsletter.
