Transcript Page 10 BROADSIDE December 1973 NOVEMBER BUSINESS MEETING The business meeting last month covered a good bit of ground. A general discussion on fund raising was a priority because of our somewhat depleted treasury. Some suggestions were made and two of them voted as resolutions. The two projects given an OK were an end-of-year party for the chapter and a sale of tickets for the play, The Doll's House (see related stories). Suggestions for uses of NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund money (like that now in use for the film festival) were made. Possibilities include use of the money for purchase of non-sexist library books for HISD. More ideas and a possible vote will occur at the December business meeting. It was voted to invite WEAL to share our Women's Center, and its expenses, for the next three months. There were general announcements and a lot of old friends there. Hope to see you at next month's meeting. NEW PASADENA CHAPTER FORMING An organizational meeting to form a new NOW chapter in Pasadena will be held at 7:30 pm on December 11 at the Pasadena Room of the First Pasadena State Bank. For additional information, contact Mary Lou Heidrick at 944-2340. CONSCIOUSNESS RAISING The Consciousness Raising Orientation meeting on January 7 will be an organizational meeting to form new CR groups for NOW members. All persons interested in joing a CR group should attend this session. Anyone interested in facilitating new CR groups, please call Helen Copitka at 664-2598 or 526-5547. WOMEN'S LIBERATION AND RADICAL LITERATURE THE PICTURE SHOW We seldom recommend movies in these pages due to the consistently sexist garbage Hollywood sees fit to toss our way. However, there is a film showing around town that takes one small step for womankind. "The Way We Were" stars Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford and spans the twenty-year history of an ill-fated romance between the two. It begins on a college campus in 1939, with Redford as the 'golden boy' super-jock with unexpected literary talent and Streisand as the campus radical political activist. The pair is an obvious mismatch, even to themselves. The surprising thing about this movie is that the female character is stronger than the male - deliberately. Hallelujah! Ed.
