Transcript | NATIONAL E.R.A. MARCH On Sunday, July 9. the largest march' ever held in support of the Equal Rights Amendment (E.R.A.) to the U.S. Constitution will take place in Washington, D.C. If you believe that all Americans should be equal under the law, this is the time to stand up for your beliefs. Today, all that stands in the way of the E.R.A., which will provide a guarantee of basic civil rights to more Americans than any other Amendment in > our nation's history, is a handful of people, a handful of states. Yet, this minority will prevail unless Congress acts this summer to extend the date for E.R.A. ratification beyond the present arbitrary deadline of March 22, 1979• If we who believe in equal rights do not take the time now to go one more mile to keep the E.R.A. within hope of ratification in our lifetimes—then how many future generations will be forced to repeat the tiring journey for the basic human rights that are already two centuries overdue in this country? The National E.R.A. March will be in processional style. Participants will march in delegations representing organizations and chapters of organizations, labor unions and locals of unions, churches and synagogues, student groups, local jurisdictions, clubs, neighborhood associations, civil rights and ethnic groups, and ad hoc E.R.A. coalitions and groupings. Each delegation is to contain no fewer than twenty participants. . . . Provisions will be made to enable handicapped persons to participate. (continued on page 2 ) |
