Transcript SEXUAL ASSUALT From the Introduction from "Against Rape" by Andra Medea and Kathleen Thompson: "There a number of reasons not to read this book: you have never been raped; you know it will never happen to you; if it did, you know you'd never be able to remember what to do or how to defend yourself; you'd rather not think about the possibility of being raped; you or someone you know has been raped, and you want to forget about it. Thses are precisely the reasons you should read this book." And....those are precisely the same reasons that you should attend our program meeting concerning this issue. Sexual Assualt (Rape) affects every woman. The more that we know about it, the better eguipped we are, not only to fight back, but to educate and change attitudes about it. It is my opinion that the increased violence against women today in our country is a 'last ditch' effort by many men to try to prevent women fro achieving their total equality. I firmly believe that if women would take the steps to fight back - and continue to fight back in mass until we put an end to this heinous crime. I hope all Bay Are NOW members will make plans to attend this important program meeting, and I hope that each brings a relative or a friend. In addition to the book mentioned above, the book "Agi=ainst Our Will" by Susan Brownmiller is a superior book on the subject. I feel that every woman should read it. It can be found at your local library or book store. Hedy Salazar FOOD FOR THOUGHT Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it, the more it will elude your. But, if you turn your attention to other things, it comes and softly sits on your shoulder. -10-
