Transcript FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK: I am so pleased with the positive responsive I have received from so may of you. I feel so encouraged! I want to represent and serve the majority of our membership's needs. I want to make sure that every one of you know that this is your organization. There are no rights or wrongs. You are all welcome. No matter how much we disagree at times with each other, our main goal is, and always will be, equal rights for women. If we work together we will succeed together. I am going to continue to need your help, your input, your time and your expertise. The February meeting will touch on a subject that is becoming my personal crusade: RAPE! Every one of us is a potential victim, so are our mothers, our daughters, our sisters and our friends. It can happen when we least expect it. It can cripple our souls and our bodies. It can terminate existing relationship, and destroy our faith in human kind. All this of course, .if we are lucky enough to get away alive. This is an issue that belongs to all of us. This is a WOMAN'S issue. We must stop it now. I, for one, am tired of living with fear. We need stiffer sentences for the criminals, better enforcement of our laws, more feminist judges, more rape centers, less legal red tape and by all means, more free counceling. We need to make others understand that rape is an act of violence and that under no circumstances will we accept leniancy towards the offenders. Come to the February meeting on the 7th. Bring your mother, your daughter, your neighbor and your firends. We need to educate ourselves on this subject and then organize and take action. Let us together with strength, determination and drive, become one, as the fingers of a hand become a fist, and with that power STOP RAPE! In Sisterhood, Anita Marcos -4-
