Transcript Hofhein^ News Cont. some positive communication between the police department and the gay community. We'll make it a fundraiser with the proceeds going to the winner of the game," Rev. Falls said. The gay team will be open to both men and women. Those interested should contact Rev. Falls at the MCC, 2020 Waugh, 522-4446. In response to this proposition Hofheinz said, "If you make the challenge, I feel like it will be accepted." Hofheinz was asked how far he was willing to go to take a stand on behalf of gays. He replied, "I am a practical politician. My public remarks will be general on the issue. I will not support specifics such as the inclusion of 'sexual preference' in the language of the fair housing ordinance." In other remarks, Hofheinz stated that he would appoint a liaison from his administration to work with the gay community. He also thought it would be possible to declare one week of next June as Gay Pride Week to coincide with the Texas Gay Conference to be held in Houston at that time. Asked if he would accept the Gay Political Caucus endorsement if offered, he replied, "Yes." "He could have said what we wanted to hear, and then later conveniently forgotten his statements," Rev. Falls remarked after the meeting. "He didn't do that. I think he was being honest and sincere and spoke with candor. I think he is 'Grade A'." Gary Van Ooteghem, of the Gay Political Caucus, said of the meeting, "I will personally endorse him. After the elections I plan to visit his office and to hold him to the commitments he has made to the gay community." Dear Southern Sisters, Please send me a sample copy of your publication. Keep it up! With its Lesbian daughters the South may yet rise again! 50<£ enclosed. Thank you. Yours in Lesbian Sisterhood, K. K.
