Transcript Page 8 BROADSIDE August 1974 NEW OFFICERS ELECTED At the July Business Meeting, the following officers were elected for the forthcoming year: Jan Dilbeck, President; Nancy Kuykendall, Vice President; Beverly Hayes, Secretary; and Norma Lee, Treasurer. SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERS You will notice that we have several new advertisers this month. We ask that you patronize these establishments so that they will feel their money was well spent. It's not enough to drop by and purchase something, you've got to tell them you saw their ad in the BROADSIDE! SORT OF REPORT FROM THE NOT-SO-LIBRARY COMMITTEE The members of the library committee are Jan Pierce,Ann Smith and Vicki Glasgow. We haven't had a meeting yet. Vicki has written to the Feminist Archive in California and is awaiting a reply. Jan is trying to type cards for the books we already have. Some really terrific books have been donated lately, especially those from Linda England, Betty Barnes and the Sexuality and Lesbianism Task Force. Those and all other donations are tremendously appreciated. We are in need of more basic feminist books and publications. The only magazine the Center has a regular subscription to is Ms. Think about donating a sub the next time you renew your favorite feminist publication. The Minority Women Task Force has requested more minority women-oriented books and publications. We need lots of help in this area. There's a listof suggestions available at the Center. It was culled from the 1st things 1st catalog, and has quite a few books by and about black women, 2 books about American Indian women, and none by or about Spanish-speaking women. Can anyone help in that area? ATTENTION, BUSINESSWOMEN! Poppy Northcutt is beginning to compile a list of businesses that are owned or operated by women. If you know of such a business, please send the name, address, and nature of the business to Poppy Northcutt, Women's Advocate, City Hall, Houston, Texas 77001. NEW BROADSIDE EDITOR Mary Ross Rhyne will become the new BROADSIDE editor in September. In addition to being a cunning linguist with previous editorial experience, Mary Ross has other qualifications too numerous to mention here. Costs of printing the BROADSIDE have skyrocketed during the past few months, so look for a change in format next month. By going to a new format we will be able to increase the total number of copies printed and still reduce costs considerably. Mary Ross will need help in two areas: typing and advertising. Louis Werner will be going back to school in September and will no longer be able to solicit ads for us. If you feel you'd make a good solicitor, contact Mary Ross. She also will need three or four reliable, rapid-fire typists to work with her. Give her a call at 527-8522 (days) or 668-6803 (nites) if you'd like to help. CELEBRATION! We're going to have one hell of a party on Saturday night, August 24, to celebrate the 54th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment. If you're a member of Houston NOW, look for an invitation in your mailbox in a couple of weeks. If you're not a member, call the Women's Center for details - everybody's welcome. Yippee.
