Transcript HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SUSAN B. It is time again to remember our heritage, time to remember those who have been before us, the ones who never gave up! Susan B. Anthony spent her entire life working for women and suffrage. She died before women cast their first vote, but her voice still calls out to us .******* FAILURE IS IMPOSSIBLE-****** The women of Houston are invited to celebrate Susan's birthday at our new headquarters §f.46Q0..Main. This office will serve the Houston Area Feminist Federal Credit Union, Harris County-Women Political Caucus, three chapter of NOW and the Women's Equity Action League, These organizations also have the following telephones: HAFFCU: 522-1702 NOW, WEAL and the Caucus: 522-1349 A press conference will be held at the office Thursday morning, February 15, to announce our official opening. The official office-warming party, which is also a celebration of Susan B. Anthony"s birthday, will begin at 6:30pm. Come by after work or whatever to 4600 Main (upstairs), and bring munchies. We'll provide the punch. IN MEMORIAL- JOAN WAITE HANLON The women and men of Houston have lost a dear friend and an ardent feminist, Joan Hanlon. I met Joan in the early 70's and enjoyed every moment of our time together. Her energy and wit shook the Spring Branch ISD until their taxes rattled; the power structure has 'not been the same since Joan Hanlon challenged it. Those of us who worked with her know that one woman can bring about change. We must continue to work and let that be our ********************************************* MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK, AND SAVE MONEY T00-MERGER OF NEWSLETTERS Many hands make light work is what my great-grandmother always sais. There will be a merger of hands and heads starting in March—Broadside and Herizons will be produced jointly. It will be called by both names, include both title designs, and will be the newsletter for all the Hosston chapters of NOW: Montrose, Southwest, Houston Area, and Northwest. Merging the mailing, lists will save money, and merging the heads will we hope produce more interesting articles for all NOW members. We will produce the newsletter ourselves but the stencils will be cut electronically. This will allow us the freedom to reproduce line drawings, cartoons, newpaper articles without retyping, etc. Plagarism lives! I will continue as editor, but articles and news will be submitted by lots of others. We have found a neighbor in our office building (ACORN) to cut our stencils, and we will run the pages as usual on the Gestetner machine which Northwest owns. All of the production will take place at our office, 4600 Main, and we can use help. The former-staff of the Broadside will be very much involved in the operation, too. It is a real merger. LaVerne Rich will still deliver it to the post office. I think she has a sweetheart among the letter carriers there, because no one else gets them to accept it so,easily, or deliver it so quickly, although it still takes a long time to get to outlying places. To offer your hands and/or head to our newsletter effort, come to a meeting of one of the chapters, and volunteer. It is fun, easy, and non-fattening. ********************************************* To renew your dues, or to join NOW for;the first time: Dues are: National: $20 Chapter: $5 & .
