Transcript Message to Members...continued to meaningful involvement and continuing support and encouragement. The three recent CR groups in the Bay Area must have similar needs. All this musing and meandering is by way of preamble to saying Bay Area NOW—you are great! You are terrific! But you could be better. As a support and inspiration source for the highly motivated self starter you've got it. But as an efficient tool of the feminist movement, you are letting a lot of it slip away. So what, you ask, does Evie Whitsett intend to do? Amid much soul searching I have been asking myself that question ever since the April newsletter. I enjoy a closed-endei responsibility (coordinating a program, making a trip) particularly if the activity is shared, I am hesitant to the point of panic at the thought of an open ended, loosely defined commitment. I expect that many folks have ideas for what \he chapter might or should do. Some of my ideas ares —provide "mentorsM with similar interests to new "apprentices11 desiring such —reinvolvement with the Equal Rights Amendment: Public Relati ns, lobbying, fundraising, etc. — continue and expand CR efforts —increase lobbying for reproductive rights in Texas. —etc. I know, I know, I'm evading the question, but when you get right down to it my answer depends on what answer other folks axe willing to give to the same question. Would you be willing to --'be a mentor to a new member? —co-lead a CR group —make a commitment to write 5 lobbying letter every week — organize an ERA fundraiser —commit 2 hours/week to the women's movement —etc. Or would you consider nominating yourself for coordinator? Do you feel a resistance to changing the way BANOW currently functions? Please let me hear your reactions, i leas, suggestions. Thanks. ...Evie Whitsett 488-1777 Homemakers' rights j Do you know your rights as a homemaker under the laws in Texas? For example, If your husband died without a will, what happens if a piece of property is under his name only? The answer to this and lots of other questions about homemaker rights are in booklets prepared for each state by the National Commission on the Observance of International Women's Year. To order one, send $1.25 to the Superintendent of Documents, Washington, D.C. 20402 and ask for The Legal Status ot Homemakers in Texas.
