Transcript Women's Lobby '61 flllionce page 2 ** PUBLICITY AND PRESS RELATIONS Send letters to the editor in response to news or feature articles on our issues. Joan Greiner, who has been developing press relations for the alliance, recommends letters to the editor of Post and Chronicle in response to Senator John Leedom's comments on bill requiring a wife to get husband's consent for an abortion. Think of new angles to attract press coverage and bring them to our attention. SAMPLE MESSAGES FOR LETTER WRITING ( refer to issues and status of bills on March 16 agenda) DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SB220, ,SB65 "I urge you to vote for bills which adequately fund shelters for abused spouses and children. The pattern of domestic violence must be broken." DISPLACED HOMEMAKERS SB220, SB516, HB1113 "Please support bills which adequately fund multi-purpose centers for displaced homemakers. These are valuable people who can become self-supporting with appropriate training and re-orientation." WIRETAPPING SB120, HB360 "I urge you to oppose any legislation which extends permission on wiretapping because it invades my privacy as a citizen and is unconstitutional." EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION BASED ON SEXUAL PREFERENCE HB283 "HB283 is a poor attempt to address a legitimate social concern. The bill should be amended to exclude Section 21.06 of the penal code entirely as well as include areas of omission such as incest. The bill should be amended to exclude a check for sexual offense arrests where the charges were dropped or a trial resulted in acquital." REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM 20. Texas bills have been filed plus HLA in congress Write to State Reresentatxve and Senator, US legislators "I ask you to oppose any legislation which bans or restricts a woman's access to a medically safe and legal abortion. I am a person who holds life precious and I am committed to giving care and guidance to the children I bring into the world. I am also committed to letting other people make reproductive choices for themselves. I resent the intrusion of the state or federal government into this most private area of my life."
