Vol. S. No. 10 HOUSTON CHAPTER—NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN October 1974 BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR US.' EVERYBODY COME! The Minority Women's Task Force is sponsoring a party on Saturday night, October 26, at the Women's Center starting at 8 P.M. The occasion Is the 8th birthday of NOW. It was actually October 29, 1966 when NOW announced lta formal Incorporation In Washington, D.C. We will simply get our celebration underway a little early. Refreshments will be provided free by the Minority Women's Task Force, with the general atmosphere of the Center, pleas* dress casually. In keeping There isn't enough money to mail invitations to everyone, so this Is the one true Invitation aimed at all of you. Mark your calendar and BE THERE.' ************************** SEVERAL NEW GROUPS ARE ORGANIZING THIS MONTH A CR group far single parents will be organizing this month. The first meeting will be on Thursday, October 17th at 8 P.M. at the Women's Center. Call Muncy McKinney at 9M-5534 for mere Information. A CR group designed to allow minority and non-mlncrlty women to compare experience* and becooe closer will be starting toward the end of October. Call Jan Hanchett at 527-901*1 or Jan Pierce at 522-1278, or call the Center, to get Involved. Support groups are a follow-up to CR groups, or an alternative to CR groups, offering women a chance to meet regularly and exchange their experiences and concern far one another. Like CR groups, these are small (8-10 members) and It Is important for members to attend each time. There are no leaders! the emphasis is on personal closeness, not political awareness.
