Transcript Recommendation "B" "Dues shall be national dues, plus chapter dues of $10.00 per year." Expenses of the Houston Area Chapter have risen with inflation. An increase of $5.00 will not eliminate the need for special fund-raising events, but should decrease the need for them. Our energies would therefore be freed for more actions directly aimed at changing our sexist society. With this dues increase, budgeting our money would be easier since we would have a more steady income than at present. Also, this increase will cover state NOW dues of $1.00. By not specifying in our bylaws that $1.00 must go to state NOW, more flexibility is allowed the local chapter. In line with the state bylaws, each member may choose whether or not to belong to state NOW. Also, if state dues are changed, we would not necessarily have to change our own bylaws. By not specifying the dollar for state NOW, the chapter may handle the state dues decision at a regular business meeting without having to wait the two or more months usually required for amending local bylaws. We thus have more freedom and flexibility concerning our relationship with state NOW. Betty Barnes the national org The May/June issue of DO IT NOW is so important that the NOW national office mailed it to all 1974 members who did not renew membership, as well as to current members. Of local interest is the legislative office report on the voting record of congresspeople on feminist issues. Our own Barbara Jordan and Bob Eckhardt made the feminist honor roll. Of vital importance is the questionnaire on task forces and on internal issues. It contains such thorny old problems such as : incorporation of state NOW organizations; the selection of national priorities; the structure of the national NOW organization, etc. If you haven't gotten your copy of DO IT NOW by the time you read this, call the Center to get an extra copy of the questionnaire. Fill it out and send it in. If you don't tell 'em what you want, they'll do what they please. 11
