All women are invited to take part in this process—to name our publication and to create a logo. You can do either or both. Entries should be sent to WOMYNSPACE, P.O. Box 98061, Houston, TX 77098 or be delivered to the Steering Committee Meetings. Entries must be in by Nov. 1. An ad-hoc committee will decide winning entries with the final selection approved by the Steering Committee. Winners will be announced at the Winter Holiday dance in December and prizes will be awarded. The name of the newsletter should include the word "WOMYNSPACE" maybe with the initials making a relative acronym. Currently our publication is called "The Womynspace Community Calender/Newsletter" (sometimes referred to as Wissen). The winner will see her name for the newsletter used starting with the January '89 issue and will receive a year's membership which includes a subscription. The logo design will be used on our newsletter and letterhead, posters, T-shirts, etc. It should reflect the spirit of the organization. We want something that will be readily identified as representing Womynspace. The word "Womynspace" should appear with the design or be part of it.* The winner will see her design used starting with the January issue of the newsletter and will receive a year's free membership in Womynspace. Additional prizes will be decided upon in the future. So, all right, all you creative muses out there, get busy. *The name "The Womynspace Action Times" has already been vetoed, much to my regret. — Deborah Bell. A break for women and minorities The Houston Housing Authority's board of commissioners has unanimously approved a resolution setting goals for minority- and women-owned business participation. The Housing Authority wants 30 percent of the total annual dollars it appropriates for contracts in construction, procurement and professional services to go to businesses owned by women and minorities. Qualifying businesses must be certified by the Housing Authority, the city of Houston or the Department of Housing and Urban Development before they submit bids. The certification supposedly ensures that functioning businesses are at least 51 percent owned by women or minorities. Interested? Don't wait before applying. The certification process takes up to two weeks.
