Transcript BUSINESS MEETING REPORT Once again, no quorum. Those attending-- myself, Pat Kuhlmann, Phyllis Tucker, Judi Hoffmann and Rema Lou Brown—reached consensus on trying a new business meeting time: third Sunday of the, month 2-5 pm. Judy Snyder (the other co-pres. cannot attend on Wednesday, and evidently neither can many others. We're looking for a public meeting room with a kitchen... Phyllis Tucker came forward as the next newsletter editor. Rema Lou Brown is approaching the other groups on the WRS Advisory Council about an essay contest for Women's History Week in some local school districts. On the calendar, please notice an outing to the Texas Women's History Exhibit in Houston (it leaves 15 Jan.) and Women's Lobby Day in Austin (19 Jan.). If a bus is chartered with other chapters, the telephone tree will be activated. Also set aside some time on the 22nd of Jan^ to remember Roe v*. blade, 10 years ago. The agenda isn't quite settled yet, but the word will go out as soon as it is. Final note: resumes for positions on the National NOW Conference Implementation Committees should be sent to Pres. Judy Goldsmith. We have members qualified for such responsibilities, and I'd like to see some apply. See you Jan. 6 and 16. - Bonnie, Huval A WORD FROM THE CO-PRESIDENT We are entering a wave of feminism that calls for a serious look at ourselves and our organization. If we are to progress as a agent of change, if we are to accomplish the global spread of feminism, we must not lose the momentum we have built up in the struggle for ERA. We had counted on the ERA to be our Eill of Rights for the future. However, that legal support has been stripped from us. Now, we can either wander in some miasma of uncertainty or we can reach forward into the future, using methods which will accomplish our goals. First, we must know what we want. Through one hundred years of fighting, our goals have not really changed. We still demand equality for women all over the world. But we also demand a quality of life that makes our equality worthwhile. Without the first goal, we cannot have the second. And without the second, the first loses its meaning. Villile we wait for ERA to be reintroduced into the legislature, we must look for additional ways in which we can further the cause of feminism. In our chapter effort, we must have your help to re-examine our methods and programs so that we can face the future with hope and enthusiasm. Please plan to support the work of Bay Area Now in 1983. Attend the program and business meetings. Volunteer for a task force. We need you. We cannot progress without your effort. Yours in NOW, Judy Snyder Paperback Swap N Shop Marie B.
