Transcript THE CAUCUS: WHERE IT'S BEEN AND WHERE IT'S GOING Helen Cassidy, one of the founders of HCWPC, provided an excellent program at the May meeting on the evolution of the Caucus. Drastically condensed, her points were: (l)We are trying to change the system from within without becoming like the present system; (2) we're trying to develop a new style of politics; (3) The Caucus is a pressure group; our effectiveness depends on the strength of numbers others think we have; (4) We should reflect the system we want to exist, not only in our structure but in our treatment of and reaction to others; (5) The Caucus is in danger of diffusing its influence, even though more women are involved in more work, because of the tendency to splinter into interest groups rather than focusing on overall goals; (6) As the feminist movement becomes fashionable, we risk its becoming a fad that loses support; (7)The Caucus at times seems chaotic because it is just now going through formal organizational procedures, a step that was bypassed originally in the heat of elections requiring immediate lobbying activity; (8) All issues are women's issues because all issues affect women; (9) HCWPC was originated by NOW activists who wanted to develop a strong feminist political arm, but it now reflects the varied political viewpoints of the cross-section of women it includes in its broad membership.
