Transcript | THE JULY 1971 BROADSIDE HOUSTON CHAPTER VOL. 2 NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN NO.6 LETTERS TO WRITE Equal Rights Amendment(H.J.B. 208, S.J.R. 8 & 9) With a standoff between the proponents and opponents of the ERA it is most critical that your Congressman and Senator receive letters urging support and passage of the ERA in its original wording. Comprehensive Child Care Act Representatives Shirley Chisholm and Bella Abzug are proposing amendments to the child care bill, HR 8402 to properly fund it and to provide centers for children of all income families. Urge support with these amendments. The child care bill in the Senate is S 1512 sponsored by Mondale. Equal Employment Enforcement Bill HR 1746 will give' the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission cease and desist powers to remove the burden of enforcement from the person discriminated against. At present, the EEOC has power to investigate charges of discrimination and to make recommendations to correct discrimination and can act as a conciliator. If the conciliation efforts fail, the plaintiff is forced to seek relief in court. MYTHS & CLICHES p.8-9 NOW National News Getting Straight Remember Sexism Write On ! P. 4 P. 2 p.5 |
