THE RANDOM HOUSE DICTIONARY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, UNABRIDGED EDITION EDITORIAL by Susan Hedding YOUR VOTE IS YOUR POWER The last issue of the BROADSIDE advised all women of the importance of voting in the state primary elections. Although the primaries have now been completed, the need for women to play an active role in the electoral process has not diminished. The state of Texas will hold run-off elections June 3. It is your responsibility to make the final decision on the candidates to appear in the November general elections. To all concerned feminists the game of politics is no longer a contest to see which candidate's PR campaign ran most efficiently. The decisions of lawmakers affect every facet of our lives. And we need not repeat the litany of legislation unfavorable to women to prove the need for legislative change. Six years ago Arkansas State Representative Paul Van Dalsem ran for reelection with the unmercilessly repeated quote, "women should be kept barefoot and pregnant". Mr. Van Dalsem is again running for re-election. We can only hope the intervening years will have made a difference in the outcome of the 1972 Arkansas elections. Six years ago many Texas legislators felt the same as Mr. Van Dalsem. (and many still do) As a woman voter you have a responsibility to use the power of your vote to protect the rights of all women. Vote in the state run-off elections June 3 and vote in November. Remember -- your vote is your power.
