Amelia Earhart Artemis is not only the soul of the wild, She is the Godess of youngsters, of whatever species, human or animal. She was not only the virgin Godess of the Greeks, She was originally a mother diety of fertility, marraige, and childbirth, as well as Godess of the wild--all before the Greeks came along. I prefer to remember Her in her aspect of protector of children and companion of wildlife, a woman living freely in her world—no wonder the Greeks called Her virgin--how could any man want a woman he could not rule... Would you believe that the Greeks had an entire festival devoted to SPRING CLEANING? The festival lasted from May 19th to the 28th and was called Kallyntaria and Plynteria. During this time the women carefully removed the sacred images from the temples and took them to the nearest lake or river for cleaning. Then, with much pomp and circumstance, returned the newly cleaned statues, dressed in their finery and jewels, to the temple where they were good for another year.
