Transcript CURENT STATE OF BILLS IN CONGRESS (remember you can write your congress-person and request a copy of any of the legislation tnat you are interested in) PAY EQUITY: H.R. 5F80 Federal Civil Service, the Federal Pay Equity and Management improvement Act of 1984, mandates tnat an independent consultant perform a seven-month pay equity study of trie federal civil service system. H. Con. Res. 239 and S. (Jon. Res 83 are companion measures that would establish a commission to perform a pay equity study witnin the legislative branch. CIVIL RIGHTS: H.R. 5490 and S. 2568 Civil Rights Act of 1984, would restore the scope of four major civil rights statutes narrowed by the Supreme Court's interpretation of Title IX in GROVE CITY COLLEGE v 13ELL. H.R. 5569 Gender Bias in the U.S. Code, would eliminate hundreds of gender-based references from the U.S. Code CHILD CARE: H.R. 4193 >:chool-Age Child Care, would provide 130 million S. 1531 to community agencies and nonprofit organizations to institute before and after-school child care programs H.R. 5885 Information and Referral, would provide $8 million in seed money for private organizations to set up child care information and referral clearinghouses. SPOUSAL BENEFITS: H.R. 2300 Civil Service Pension Reform, protecting survivor S. 2821 benefits for widows and former spouses of civil service employees. The Senate bill would also provide for continued health insurance coverage of divorced spouses. HEALTH: H.R. 5600 Fami1y PIanning reauthorizes the ^Family Planning program and the Preventive Helatn Care Block Grant for three years with modest funding increases each year; tne Adolescent Family Life program is extended for three years at current funding. H.R. 1904 Family Violence, the Child Abuse Amendments of 1983, passed the House on Feb 2, 1984.
