Transcript | page 2 Kathy Whitmire is chairing the resolutions committee and requests members to submit resolutions one week in advance in order to decrease the number of resolutions introduced from the floor. Please co-operate to save time. Work on your resolutions now and send them to Kathy Whitmire, 10l|l6 Hammerly, Houston, Tx. 7702lj.. Plan now to attend this vital annual meeting. Convention information will be sent out with registration blanks. RESOLUTION COMMENDS CHIEF LYNN The HCWPC and the Houston chapter of NOW passed a-joint resolution commending Chief Carrol M. Lynn for his investigation of Officers Jack Heard, Jr. and Wayne Jones, who allegedly raped and beat a Houston woman. Like many rape victims, the woman did not want to press charges, and this incident might have gone unnoticed without the investigative work by Larry Conners, newsman for Channel 13 (KTRK-TV) and the decisive action of Chief Lynn. The resolution further condemned the abuse of women at the hands of police generally and urged Chief Lynn to prevent any future acts of brutality. HCWPC FORMS POLICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE The HCWPC now has a Police Advisory Committee, which will advise the Houston Police Department on the treatment of rape victims, employment and promotions for women officers within the department, and all matters relating to both women officers and women prisoners. The committee, chaired by Sharon Moline-Vincent, was formed as a result of a meeting with Police Chief Lynn on Feb. 1, at which topics of concern to the Caucus were discussed. Anyone interested in applying for police training and employment should contact the Advisory Committee either before or after making application, since a review of applications made by women to the police department will be one of the tasks of the committee. The next meeting of the advisory committee will be held on Sunday at 5:00 p.m., at the Women's Center. Caucus members who wish to serve on this committee should contact Sharon Moline-Voncent at 661-3231. |
