Transcript | broad-side n. 3b: a sheet of paper printed an one or both sides and folded. 4: something (as a ballad) printed on a broadside. 5a: the simultaneous discharge of all the guns an one side of a ship. Vol, 6, No. 2 HOUSTON CHAPTER - NOW E.R.A. ONTHE LINE The crunch is here—the Texas Legislature is now in session and, as we expected, a bill will be introduced asking far the rescission of Texas' ratification of the i^qual Rights Amendment. Opponents of the ERA have flooded Texas legislators with mail and as a result some of our legislators may oe wavering.' In addition, we have many new legislators who are undecided as to their position on the ERA. These people must have our encouragement to support and retain the ERA. They need to be reminded that the people of Texas voted in favor of our present state ERA by a 4 to 1 majority over two years ago. You have a decision to make: you can sit back and watch your hard-won equality taken away, or you can fight.' You can tight in two ways, with your pencil or in person, or both. Enclosed with this Broadside are two postcards. One is far your state senator, the other far your state representative. Sit down, address the card, add a short message asking your legislator to support the ERA, and sign your name and address. DO IT NOW.' Governor Briscoe, Lt. Gov. Hobby, and Speaker Clayton also need to hear from you. Thursday, February 13, has been chosen as our Lobby Day in Austin. NOW, along with many other groups who support the ERA, will be sending people from all over the state to lobby for retention of the ERA. That day has also been designated by, the governor as Susan B. Anthony Day. We will charter a bus to Austin which will leave Houston around 6 AK. on February 13 and will return that evening. Round-trip fare will be $7.50 we must have your name and money (cash or check) by 3 pm, on dunday, February 2 if you plan to go with us. A lobbying training session will be held at 2 P.K. on Sunday, February 9 far those who will go to Austin. The session will be brief, but attendance is very important. Please make an effort to go to Austin. Losing a day's pay is far less important than losing your rights. If you cannot go, please send a contribution to help pay for the bus.
