Transcript May 1974 BROADSIDE Page 7 EDUCATION: Houston and Bay Area chapters will be coordinating the textbook readings for the state. The subject areas are bilingual education, speech, grammar, choral music, high school Spanish, handwriting, science, basal readers for 7th and 8th grade, and higher math. We need volunteers to help read these books. Contact Kay Whyburn at 667-8556. ***** NOW NATIONAL CONFERENCE CHILD CARE NEEDS We are expecting over 100 children for the NOW National Conference. We need your help and cooperation in supplying items for the child care center. Donations are requested of the following items: paper bags, styrofoam building blocks, old jewelry, old costumes, old dress-up shoes, old eyeglasses, old hats, and funky clothes in general. Volunteers are needed to help with shitwork such as making sandwiches, etc. Contact Lynn Mutchler at 667-6932. Please consider volunteering boyfriends, lovers, and/or husbands and older sons for child care and tour guides. All husbands will be returned. We will negotiate the return of boyfriends and lovers. Contact Betty Ann Knoll, 493- 4656. We need arts and crafts materials. Think in terms of collage, stringable items such as spools, large buttons, etc. , and anything that could be used creatively. Thank you for your kind help. Muncy McKinney MAY BUSINESS MEETING Of course you'll be attending the National Conference! So what are you going to do during those three hectic days? In order to facilitate your inauguration into what may look like a free-for-all to the untrained eye, Poppy and Helen (Conference coordinators), aided by some convention veterans, will be on hand to answer questions and talk about business that will have to be settled by the Conference. We'll discuss what to expect from attendees individually and as a horde. We'll introduce you to proposed structural changes and resolutions so that you'll have the facts before you're called on to make decisions. And we'll rap about how to prepare yourself for a fantastic experience. The May business meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 8, at 8 PM at the University of Houston Student Center. Be there! Our participation, especially in light of our numbers, will be most crucial to the success of the 1974 Conference. CENTER LIBRARY Please return books belonging to our library promptly so everyone has a chance to use them. Tan Pierce and Ann Scott are our new librarians and they intend to set up a more orderly checkout system. They'll be the ones to contact if you have any books to donate.
