We think Polly should receive material support for her courage and insight, and this Task Force will receive a donation from Polly for our interest and help. (I have visions of having the money to make a personal telephone call or an encompassing visit to every senator and representative in Washington.) However, we think the charge is reasonable - $10.00 for each group of six workshops if you pre- register, or $2.00 per workshop if you want to just drop in. We will limit the size of the workshops - and first-come, first-served. Drop-in attendance will naturally depend on pre-registration response. So, fill out the pre-registration slip included in this BROADSIDE (there will be another pre-registration slip in the Tune BROADSIDE for the second group of workshops) - and join us in acquiring another weapon to use in our struggle, Also, if you are interested in daytime workshops, call Polly at 774-1858 and tell her. If there is enough demand, she will set up the same series in the daytime. New Subject: Toan Glantz of the American Civil Liberties Union in Houston has contacted us to ask for help in attacking another insidious invasion of our rights. While there are no laws requiring spouse consent for abortion or sterilization, and no laws requiring a given number of children before sterilization, the fact is that many doctors and private and public facilities do enforce these restrictions of individual choice and privacy. A.C.L.U. is making a national effort to remove these restrictions. The local office now has the money and the personnel to file lawsuits - if we can find people willing to be plaintiffs, to go through the court procedures. These suits can be filed as "Tohn Doe" or "Mary Doe" cases. A.C.L.U. will pay all of the costs in connection with the suits. We need the following people: (1) A woman at least 18 years old or married who wants and will be refused sterilization because she has less than three children. (2) A married woman who wants sterilization and feels that her husband's consent should not be a determining factor. (3) A single woman at least 18 years old who wants and will be refused sterilization because she has less than two children. (4) A married woman who wants an abortion and feels that her husband's consent should not be a determining factor. continued
