Rome.—No. II. i jjfjjN commencing our second sketch, we J> would observe that, being in Rome, we must do as Rome does, if we wish to see any special sights; therefore, we felt no uneasiness in going to a flower and cattle show on Sunday, which was held in the beautiful grounds of the Borghese Palace ; the show of flowers taking place in some of the conservatories and a number of gaily- decorated tents. The display of roses and fruit was superb; in other respects the flowers were far behind those in our own exhibitions. The cattle were arranged in stalls around an immense amphitheatre, which is frequently used, by permission of the Prince Borghese, for sports and games on festal days. Here were exhibited some of the finest oxen ever seen. One young- bull, only fifteen months old, was almost a pure w^hite, of the sacred breed, such as a Phidias would have chosen for his model.
