Transcript Voucher N°4 Abstract "L" 3rd qr 1853 Office County of State of Texas Personally appeared before me at Fort Ewell Texas September 1853. Private Joseph Backus Company "B" R.M.R. and made oath in due form and saith That one public horse the property of the United States and for which Lieut. W.E. Jones Rifles A.A.G.M. is responsible got so badly foundered and broken down when carrying the Mail from Fort Ewell to Corpus Christi Texas on the 2nd day of August 1853, as to be unable to travel further and had to abandon said horse on the roads, notwithstanding proper care and attention having been previously paid to said horse by deponent. Sworn to and subscribed in duplicate the day and date above written. Comdg Post
