Transcript | Welcome . . . On behalf of the University of Houston and Pine Forest Country Club, it is a genuine pleasure to welcome you to the Seventh Annual All-America Golf Championships. We sincerely hope your stay here will be most enjoyable and fruitful. We at the University of Houston consider it a privilege to play host to 19 of the finest golf teams in the nation. We would like to express our appreciation to the members of Pine Forest Country Club who are taking an active part in promoting and staging what many observers believe to be one of the most interesting and exciting golf tournaments in America. We are very proud to be host to so many championship teams. Teams in the field this year have won 19 different championships. This is by far the best field we have ever had. These teams have won 11 out of the past 12 NCAA Team Championships. We are very grateful to the many civic-minded persons and companies who have purchased tickets and given their time to this tournament. We also want to thank members of the press, radio and TV for their cooperation. Without their help, this undertaking would have been impossible. The site, picturesque Pine Forest Country Club, is truly a championship course in every respect. It is heavily wooded with beautiful pine and oak trees and the fairways are very narrow. It stretches out over 6900 yards and par is 36-36—72. The greens and fairways are well trapped and generally is considered one of the toughest tests of golf in the world. We realize that some of the AAII competitors in this tournament, like those of yesterday, will be the community leaders and great golfers of tomorrow. We'ra proud to have you in our tournament . . . and we wish each and every one of you the best of luck. Sincerely, DAVE WILLIAMS Tournament Director |
