Entering her 14th year as trail boss of the Lady
Raiders, Marsha Sharp has one of the most
successful basketball programs in the nation.
She has recorded a national championship,
three 13-1 SWC seasons and four consecutive
regular season titles. But her accomplishments
don't stop there. Sharp has had ten post-season
tournament appearances in 13 years, her teams
have never finished belowthird in the SWC and she has been named SWC Coach
of the Year six times. Five times consecutively in the last five years.
The 1992-93 Lady Raiders finished the season with a 19-game
winning streak, a 31 -3 record and the NCAA National Championship trophy. Last
season, Texas Tech won the SWC title (13-1), first place in the SWC Dr Pepper
Classic and an appearance in the Elite Eight.
Sharp attended Wayland Baptist University where she was a guard for
the Wueen Bees for two years before starting her coaching career, directing the
freshman team during her junior and senior years. She also served as a graduate
assistant for the 1974-75 season.
She earned her bachelor's degree from Wayland in 1974 and received
a master's from West Texas State in 1976. Next came a six-year stint at Lockney,
where she also served as head track coach.
Sharp came to Texas Tech as an assistant coach for the 1981-82
season and then became head coach the following year.
A published author, Sharp wrote the book Basketball Basics in 1983.
