Transcript Excavating Canal Our Hydraulic Dredge "Oakland" working on the Tidal Canal between Oakland Harbor and San Leandro Bay, under contract with the United States Government in 1890. On the left of the cut will be seen the end of the discharge pipe putting the spoil behind a levee. More than 1,000 acres of mud flat and marsh lands have been raised and filled by this method around Oakland Harbor, greatly enhancing its value, and making the same available for manufacturing and commercial purposes. 40
