Transcript Hydraulic Dredge " Florida" The Hydraulic Dredge " Florida" at work at Galveston, Texas; from a photograph taken August 10, 1895. This machine has excavated 15,725 cubic yards in a run of twenty-two and a half engine hours. It has also excavated 298,790 cubic yards in a run of twenty-four consecutive days. This machine was built at Jacksonville, Florida, for the improvement of St. John's River between Jacksonville and the ocean, where it executed a large contract. It has dug and put ashore more than 3,500,000 cubic vards of material. At present (1898) it is engaged in excavating a ship canal, seven miles long, at Port Arthur, Texas, for the Kansas City, Pittsburg & Gulf Railroad. It is operated by the New York Dredging Co.
