Transcript Page 7 nest and walked along the main limb to the tree trunk, plucked a twig and added it to the nest. This was a new type of behaviour. The next afternoon she got out and walked a bit and returned, but on the 21st there was no sign of life. None of the birds were seen again. The nest remains, with an egg still barely visible through the loose sticks. Why the abandonment? They were not alarmed by man, or even by little boys. No noise or movement we made seemed to disturb their serenity. They were never seen feeding or near the ground, and the nest seems undamaged. No dead birds have been found. Will all good birders still in possession of a permit to enter the acreage with the old house in Galveston please return them to Nancy Strickling within the next two weeks.
