Transcript Page 3 The territory farther north on Hwys. 563 and 2O4I is heavily wooded with pines and mixed woods, mostly cedar, elm, hackberry, sweetgum and various oaks. In this habitat we found the characteristic birdss' Parula and Pine Warblers, White-eyed Vireos, Summer Tanagers, and a bird which is apparently typical of this habitats the Fish Crow. We saw at least 7 of these birds which we easily identified by their distinctive call. The trip terminated at the Trinity River with a total of 74 species, not too bad for leisurely summer birding. The main significance of the trip lay in exploiting the possibilities of an extraseasonal spring norther and exploring "new territory" on the eastern side of Galveston Bay. #***♦**## Editor's Note:- With' several years of "Clearing House" records behind us in this publication, the vast importance of this feature is becoming more profound. It is not only of current interest for us to know what is being seen, and wherej it is even more important that a continuous combined record is being compiled for the Houston area. In these years when our natural heritage may suffer most in the wake of a worldHuide population (homo sapiens) explosion coupled with vast and far-reaching scientific developments, it behoves eaeh ethnic area to attempt this same sort of reference material. The method of compiling the "Clearing House" has been altered from time to time, generally towards a more convenient reference. It achieved its present order in I960 under the editorship of Ben Feltner, with Vic Emanuel consulting. We solicit your help in continuing this worthy endeavor. First, if you are keeping records, send your reports. The editors will extract the pertinent data.. Second, please follow these simple ruless 1. Under the species include numbers thus, (-) as observed on the day of the month, in the general a rea of Example "Bobolink (It) 18, Galveston" Include only those birds seen in the month preceding the Spoonbill issue you are submitting your list for.
