Ralph Hunter, Leader. Meet at east end of seawall at jetties at 10 AM. Trip will end at the beach for a swim. September 29 (Sunday) O.G. field trip. Gulf pelagic trip aboard the "Captain Doc". Cost: $5.00 per person. For reservation send $1.00 deposit to Jerry Strickling, 5118 W. Bellfort, Houston 35. The deposit will apply toward the total cost, remainder payable on board the "Doc". The deposit will be refunded if the boat doesn't go. Although the boat is licensed for 99 persons, the trip will be limited to the first 50 reservations received to insure maximum comfort for the trip. This will be the 4th pelagic trip sponsored by TOS Region 8 and the Houston O.G. Species seen on previous trips are Magnificent Frigate Bird, Gannets, Jaegers, various apparitions which may have been Shearwaters and Boobies, and several trans-Gulf migrants. The trip has been oversubscribed every time and reservations are coming in fast from all over the state, so hurry if you want to go. As well as snacks for the Homo sapiens, bring plenty of bait food for the Aves; stale bread (most bakeries sell it at a nominal price),old popcorn from movie theatres, and fish and meat scraps. The Captain Doc is a large, steel-hulled boat with a spacious open deck above a. large enclosed cabin. There are both 9 andcfrestroom facilities. Food and drink are sold on board. October 3 (Thursday) Regular O.G. meeting. Downtown Recreation Center. Meeting time will be announced in the next Spoonbill. Harvey Patten will present the program "Gulf Coast Watch". October 26 (Saturday) O.G. Field trip to Montgomery,Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Jones have invited us to be their guests for woods birding in the morning and picnicing on their property. In the afternoon there will be a side trip to a nearby lake. Meeting time and place will be in the next Spoonbill. Margaret Anderson will lead the trip.
