Transcript 2 The Volume 44, No. 10 October 1995 Spoonbill Published by The Ornithology Group, Outdoor Nature Club, Houston Chairman's Message "I was so happy just being there. There is no one word to describe all the joy I experienced when I encountered so many new birds." Ramiro Garcia thanking the OGfor sending him to Victor Emanuel's Camp Tejano. Ramiro's letter to the OG is inside this newsletter. BY BOB LUCKNER As the year begins to wind down and family and holiday activities increase, are you taking time for yourself? If not, reflect for a moment on the feelings and restored energy you get from birding. Remember the crisp feel of autumn air, the smell of sea breezes or pine forests, the crunch of fallen leaves, shorebirds in the early morning fog and the smile of the friend with whom you are birding! Make a commitment to take the time to experience again these joys. The next few months are great times on the upper Texas coast. Fall migrations are returning our winter friends (birds and humans). Ducks, geese, shorebirds, sparrows are returning to share their beauty with us and to challenge our identification skills. Let the OG be the catalyst for you to allocate the time to enjoy birding this time of year. We have some great speakers lined up to renew your birding interest and the Learning Corner with local experts reviewing identification of birds of the season. And, now is the time to plan your participation in Christmas Counts. Counts are great opportunities to test your skill and stamina and to renew old friendships. An extensive list of counts from Bolivar Flats to Mexico is included in this newsletter. So—why wait? Get involved. Participate in the OG! Bring a friend along to share the experience and ask them to consider joining the club!
