Transcript Brazos Bend State Park Bird Watching Hike Schedule Meet at 40 Acre Lake Restrooms Hikes will be from 2-3 hours in length Friday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. Leaders - Bill Godley and/or Mark Garbutt ot the Brazos Bend Volunteer Organization. Binoculars highly recommended. Beginners and advanced birders are invited to participate. "I'd rather be lucky than smart!" Several years ago, the Migration Celebration featured a hike at Brazos Bend State Park let by David Heincke. As David and the group prepared to head down the trail for a 2-3 hour hike, an elderly couple, not feeling "tip top" decided to stay behind. What a disappointment! I chose to stay with the couple in the parking lot and we had a wonderful time learning about one another but paying little attention to the few birds which were about. Then it happened. A turkey vulture appeared and drifted over the parking area accompanied by another bird. For a moment I was speechless but then asked the nice couple if they had ever seen the bird slowly moving with the vulture to the able to add a new bird to their Needless to say, when the remainder of the group returned several hours later, they had lots to talk about. But they were humbled (and likely jealous) of the wonderful experience that my friends were able to experience and with no effort whatsoever! They had seen a Swallow- tailed Kite. —Bill Godley Friday, November 12, 2004 Sunday, November 21, 2004 Friday, December 3, 2004 Sunday, December 12, 2004 Friday, January 14, 2005 Sunday, January 16, 2005 Friday, February 11, 2005 Sunday, February 20, 2005 Friday, March 11,2005 Sunday, March 20, 2005 Friday, April 8, 2005 Sunday, April 10,2005 Friday, May 13, 2005 Sunday, May 22, 2005 Friday, June 3, 2004 north and beyond.
