Brazos Bend State Park
Bird Watching Hike Schedule
Meet at 40 Acre Lake Restrooms
Hikes will be from 2-3 hours in length
Friday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m.
Leaders - Bill Godley and/or Mark Garbutt ot the Brazos Bend
Volunteer Organization.
Binoculars highly recommended.
Beginners and advanced birders are invited to participate.

Several years ago, the
Migration Celebration
featured a hike at Brazos
Bend State Park let by David
Heincke. As David and the
group prepared to head down
the trail for a 2-3 hour hike, an
elderly couple, not feeling "tip
top" decided to stay behind.
What a disappointment!
I chose to stay with the
couple in the parking lot and
we had a wonderful time
learning about one another
but paying little attention to
the few birds which were
about. Then it happened. A
turkey vulture appeared and
drifted over the parking area
accompanied by another
bird. For a moment I was
speechless but then asked
the nice couple if they had
ever seen the bird slowly
moving with the vulture to the

Needless to say, when the remainder of the group returned several hours later, they had
lots to talk about. But they were humbled (and likely jealous) of the wonderful experience that
my friends were able to experience and with no effort whatsoever! They had seen a Swallow-
tailed Kite.
