Transcript December '98 UTC Clearinghouse Clearinghouse - December ' 98 Clearinghouse editor: David Sarkozi send reports to: dsarkozi@flash.net 111 Welch Apartment B Houston, TX 77006 (713) 520-5906 December was dominated by lingering migrants and waterfowl. 205 species reported thanks to some great finds on Christmas Bird Counts for a total of 15,0849 birds. No great surprise in that blackbirds were the most numerous reported species with 45,450 followed by Snow Geese 37,166. Lingering migrants were large nu rubers of Tree Swallows; 411 reported birds. Most CBCs you feel lucky to get one or two. I got two reports of Common Night- hawks. Other lingering birds were Scissor- tailed Flycatcher, Prairie Warbler, and Northern Mockingbird. Two knock your socks off birds reported would be new to the checklist of ANY documentation is received. To date no one has sent in anything on the Common Raven reported at East Beach in Galveston. Many have seen that bird. The "Other is a Townsend's Solitaire. Video was obtained of that bird and the checklist committee should get it soon. The new 8th edition of the A Birder's Checklist ofthe Upper Texas Coast will be available at the next OG meeting. I'm now using that for abundance in the Clearinghouse. Please I do need to start getting documentation on those birds that are Rare to the checklist. Please keep those reports coming either by mail or e-mail. I hope to be able to distribute a new clearinghouse report from at the next OG meeting. That form will be based on the 8th edition of the checklist. If you send reports by e-mail I prefer to receive them in this format: species, date, county, location, count, observer. You can turn in several reports at once, even for more than one observer. The format this month is birds that are common or abundant for the entire month in the 7th edition of the checklist show the nu mber of birds reported and the number of reports. All other species are in this format: species month/day countyflocation) count observer.
