Transcript November 25, 1952 Subjects State Ornithological Organization Letter No. 2 TO: All Concerned It has been some time since we have contacted you concerning the desirability of forming a State Ornithological Society and we thought you would like to know what progress has been made toward that end. First, we should like to express our appreciation to all those who have replied to the initial letter. The replies have been numerous and contained many good suggestions as well as unanimous approval of the project. In addition to the letter, some of us attended the A.O.U. convention in Baton Rouge, Louisiana There, a short dinner meeting of all Texans gave approval for the formation of a State Ornithological Society to be formed as a separate organization and not as a branch of any other existing society. It was further approved that an attempt should be made to perfect the organization at the same time the Texas Academy of Science meets in Fort Worth on December 4-6. This was in line with several suggestions received in reply to the initial letter. After contacting some members of the Texas Academy of Science, it was learned that their program was so full that any attempt to hold another meeting might complicate matters. After discussing the subject with individuals both within and outside our local group, a decision was made to try to have a small planning session during the December 4-6 Fort Worth meeting and then set a date for an organizational meeting some time after the holidays, probably in February 1953o The place for the meeting probably will be in Austin. This is a fairly central location and might offer better facilities for such a meeting. Since our first letter met with such good response, we feel that this tentative plan might be beneficial as it will give you folks plenty of time to present your ideas concerning the type of organization you think should be formed, its function, its officers, and its name. The name we have used in this letter is in line with that used by similar societies in other states. Any suggestions shall be appreciated. Yours very truly. Chaso H.
