Transcript The Spoonbill A Publication of the Ornithology Group Of the Houston Outdoor Nature Club May/June/July 2003 Vol. 52 No. 5 August Program AQUATIC BIRDS OF THE UPPER TEXAS COAST Dr. Dan Brooks will present the August program on the aquatic birds of the upper Texas coast. Dr. Brooks has been Curator of Vertebrate Zoology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science since 1999, has served as Chair of the WPA/Birdlife/IUCN Cracid Specialist Group since 1996, and is currently an associate faculty member in the Biology Department at Sam Houston State University. His Ph.D., from Texas A&M in 1998, was based on community ecology of Neotropical birds. His research has focused in the Neotropics, having worked in over a dozen countries outside the U.S, with emphasis in the lowlands east of the Andes in Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay. He is currently advising students from the University of Florida and the University of Georgia on the community ecology of Neotropical gamebirds.
