FIELD NOTES, October, 1983 White-tailed Hawkt One adult and one immature. Both birds seen soaring with wings in obvious dihedral. Adult with short, white tail with black terminal band. Immature with short tail and dark, somewhat streaked and blotchy plumage, with white spot on upper breast and rufous on upper wing coverts. Adult @ 500 n., excellent light, binocs, 2 min; immature 9 100- 300 ra with binocs in excellent light for 1 min. Both birds seen by 9 observers. - - - Jim Morgan Sage Thrashert Small thrasher with relatively short, dark bill. Rather short, dark tail with white corners $ end of tail. Light yellow eye. Grayish brown back and crown. Heavy dark striping on white breast. Bird perched in bush 4 ft. off ground for 1-3 s±n. in excellent light. Seen from 3-20 ft., no binocs. David Dauphin Gray-cheeked Thrushi About 6£ in, long; uniform gray-brown back, tail, rump, and nape; underside stone white; upper breast spotted medlumly with blackish oval spots. No eyerlng and no tan wash on or about the face. 20 ft. Good light (not shade), 10 ft. off ground, exposed perch. 5 observers - - - Ben Feltner Black-throated Gray Warbler. With foraging flock of fall warblers in Smith Woods. Small black and white warbler with gray back. Dendrloca type.
