Transcript VOLUME XXII, NO. 9 JANUARY, 1974 PUBLISHED BY THfl ORNITHOLOGY GROUP, OUTDOOR NATURE CLUB, HOUSTON,TEXAS JOHN TVETEN TO TEACH COURSES This spring will be an excellent time for all of us to learn more; and our Dr. John L. Tveten will be teaching 3 courses at Lee College and 1 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. At Lee College: The courses will be eight nights each, from 7-9 P.M. Outdoor and Wildlife Photography will be held on Monday nights, Feb.4- March 25. This is a repeat of the class held this fall, the course having been lengthened to eight weeks. Lecture and discussion periods will include demonstrations of techniques for nature photography and will be based on series of color slides taken by the instructor. This will be a class In outdoor picture taking, not in the techniques of developing or printing pictures. Some of the topics covered will be scenery, flowers, birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects. A field trip will be made available for those who want it. Nature Study will be held on Tuesday nights, Feb. 5-March 26. These lecture and discussion periods will deal with various types of plants and animals, their habits, and their interactions. Numerous color slides and specimens will be used as aids to identification and to illustrate the manner in which individual species are adapted to the environment in which they live. Special attention will be given to learning to identify families and species of plants and animals. A field trip will be provided. Bird Study will be held on Wednesday nights, Feb. 6 - March 27. This course will discuss families and individual species of birds, their habits and behavior, and the part they play in the ecological scheme. Particular attention will be given to bird identification so that the student may identify birds in the field. Color slides taken by the instructor will be used as a basis for these classes. There will also be a field trip. Registration: The cost of each eight-week course will be $17. Interested persons should call Lee College - Continuing Education Division (427-5611) before the date of the course to indicate their intention of registering. No other preregistration is required. However, and very importantly, if you do intend to take a course, contact Lee at" that number and tell them; if there is not enough response by pre- registering, the class will be cancelled before the beginning date of the class. Although Lee College Is in Baytown, there is no charge for a call to them. And, as most of us live in Houston, car pooling seems the only way to get to these courses: some of us don't have cars, some don't drive at night, and we all would like company, as well as not having to do all of the driving each week. John will also serve as a car pool clearing house; call him at (toll-free) 427-4431 after calling Lee College, and he will arrange car pools.
