Here's hoping for a smooth, eventful (birdwise) trip! ************************************ HERE ABD THERE Oops, we goofed and omitted credit to Steve Williams for information he submitted on the new "Sparrow Corner" (see last issue)! The Harwells are excited over the appearance in their yard of five Inca Doves! Arlie McKay reports his 1962 total for his area was 258 species with outstanding birds in descending order - ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER, HARLAN'S HAWK, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, Western Tanager, Horned Lark, Swallow-tailed Kite, Rufous Hummingbird, Horned Grebe, and Black-headed Grosbeak. McKay also sends in a story of a hunter's guide calling in a SWAN to his duck decoys with a goose call! "It lit in gun range and allowed a hunter to get close to it." (Bo word as to its fate - Ed.) NOTE OF SYMPATHY - The many friends of Mrs. J. L. Hooks, Charter and Honorary member of T.O.S. from Beaumont, are saddened by her recent death in Houston.
