Transcript Summer 2002 Costa Rica David Sarkozi will be the leader for this trip assisted by this wife Cheryl. This tentative itinerary and cost estimate are being published early to allow plenty of time for members to consider the trip and make necessary plans. Depart IAH Saturday morning and arrive in Costa Rica in early afternoon. For the next three nights we'll stay at the Hotel Fiesta in Puntarenas. Birding in the Palo Verda N.P. in the Guanacaste region Birding in the Carara N.P., Pacific Lowlands Travel to Montevarde. We'll stay at the Cloud Forest Lodge. We'll bird our way to Monte verde, plus birding on the Hotel's five miles of trails Birding in the Monteverde Preserve Birding at the Sky Walk or Santa Elana Preserve Depart Monteverde. Birding in the afternoon at Tipanti N.P. in the Caribbean Foothills. Evening in San Jose at the Best Western Irazu. June 15 Depart San Jose for Houston June 8,2002 June 9 June 10 June 11 June 12 June 13 June 14 The expected cost will be about $1400 per person. This price includes lodging, transportation and airfare. The first three nights will be all-inclusive and includes meals, drink and alcoholic beverages. Meals will be out of pocket after that. One person should be able to eat very well on less than $30 a day. David expects we can find at least 250 species of birds with some luck. David Poteet will be the leader for this trip and he will assisted by Skip Almoney. This is being published this early to allow plenty of time for members to consider the trip and make the necessary plans. Wednesday June 5,2002 Thursday June 6,2002 Friday June 7, 2002 Saturday June 8,2002 Sunday June 9, 2002 Depart 6:00 A.M. and drive to Fort Davis. Lodging at Indian Lodge. Birding in the Balmorhea State Park and around Balmorhea Lake. Bird the Davis Mountain Nature Conservancy Preserve. This will include some hiking. Travel to Brackettville and bird around the local area. Birding at Kickapoo State Park. Return to Houston around 5:00 -6:00 P.M. There will be a limit of twelve (12) people. The trip is still in the planning stages and the cost has yet to be determined. Additional information will be forthcoming at the January meeting and in the next Spoonbill. Bird Hikes at Brazos Bend State Park David Heinicke, Park Naturalist at Brazos Bend State Park, and Bill Godley, Park Volunteer and OG member, will lead bird hikes monthly during the winter and spring. David and Bill compile the Christmas Bird Count at the Park (December 22 this year) and know the area quite well. Hikes will commence at 8:00 ajn. from the 40 Acre Lake parking lot (regardless ofthe areas chosen to be hiked) and will conclude before noon depending primarily on the weather. Beginners and advanced birders are invited to participate. The hikes will start December 9 and will continue on the second Sunday ofthe first four months of 2002. All dates will be published on the Park web page: www.bbspvo.org. Other than entry to the Park, there is no fee. David and Bill look forward to seeing you!!
