Transcript VOLUME VIII NO. 11 MARCH i960 *•••••* ****** ******** •According to Dr. Frank M, Chapman, the length* •of time required by a species to rear a brood* •influences the number of broods reared anau- * •ally. The eggs of the house sparrow hatch in* •12 days and the young remain in the nest only* •about a week, so as many as six broods have • •been raised a season. The eggs of the fish * •hawk require four weeks incubation and the • •young do not fly until they are six weeks old* •Hence the species is oae brooded. The time • •of arrival at the nesting ground also has an • •influence on the number of broods. The size * •of the brood is another factor. • ************************ PUBLISHED BY THE ORNITHOLOGY GROUP.
