It was good to see that the Brown Pelican is far from extinct, the white species being the uncommon one along the east coast." SPRING TRIP TO R..NCH0 DEL CIELO The Gorgas Science Society.announces another of the rewarding spring visits to Rancho Del Cielo May 27 - June 2, 1973. The Rancho, biological field, station for Texas Southmost College, Brownsville, Is located In America's Guatemala of■southwestern Tamaulipas. Guests are housed in--station buildings and served hearty family meals in the dining-kitphen. They explore the cloud forest with experienced naturalists and' are offered a rare opportunity to experience tho wilds of Mexico with none of the inherent tourist problems. A one-day trip by College vehicles will be made into the surrounding mountains during the course of the visit. Some Mexican bird species to be expected at the Ranch in May are: Rufescent Tinamou, Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Crested Guan,Long-toed Partridge, Military Macaw, three Parrot species, Squirrel Cuckoo, Least Pygmy-Owl, Mottled Wood-Owl, five species of Hummingbirds, including Rivoli & Heloise, Mountain Trogon, Blue-crowned Motmot, four woodpeckers, three Woodhewers, Mexican Peppershrike, Rufous-capped Atlapetes, Blue Mockingbird, Blaok-headed Nightingale-Thrush, and a myriad of others. Cost is $150.00 per person, all profits support student activities at the station. Guests must provide their own transportation to and from the auto parking plaza in Gomez Farias where college vehicles meet and leave guests arriving and departing as a group. Guests will be met following the noon hour Sunday May 27 and returned around noon Saturday June 2.
