Transcript The Spoonbill A Publication of the Ornithology Group (OG) of the Houston Outdoor Nature Club May 2004 Vol.52 No. 5 May Meeting Monday, May 3, 2004 7:00 p.m. Bayland Community Center 6400 Bissonnet Learning Corner - 6:30 p.m.: Breeding Warblers of the Upper Texas Coast -by Rob Thacker and David Poteet Program: "A Bird in Hand..." --by Mary Anne Weber Following a PowerPoint presentation about her work over the years using educational wild birds of prey to teach children about birds, Mary Anne will introduce five of her charges: Spirit (Red-tailed Hawk), Padre (Peregrine Falcon), Cody (American Kestrel), Tskili (Great Horned Owl), and Poco (Eastern Screech Owl). She will talk about each bird's species history as well as each individual bird's personal history. Mary Anne has a B.S. in Forestry and Wildlife Biology from Virginia Tech. She worked as a rehabilitator and educator 9 years for The Raptor Trust in New Jersey, and 8 years in Montana with her own rehab and education foundation before moving to Houston in 1999 to fill the education position with Houston Audubon. Her experience with helping wild birds in need covers well over 200 species. Her educational programs just for HAS reach about 15,000 people each year in well over 300 programs, including the HAS summer bird camp for kids.
